"they play solid seventies-style melodic hard rock ... while at other times they are channelling Sabbath, or George Thorogood"
2021: A LAZY ODYSSEY review - Gonzo Magazine UK
2021: A LAZY ODYSSEY is an album of contrasts with the instrumental ‘Polly’s Lament’, classic rock anthems ‘Wait For Me’, ‘Perdition Dance’, ‘My Hand (Peaky Blinders)’, ‘Pretty As A Flower’ and ‘No No No’, the heavier System of Down-esque ‘Falling In To You’ with interesting time changes, and blues rock number ‘I Don’t Know Who I Am’.
The album title is a play on the title of the 1968 movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. In keeping with the movies theme the album is introduced with our version of the classical instrumental Also Sprach Zarathustra (R Strauss), the movie’s theme song (check out the timpanis). However, this is definitely not a concept album!
2021: A LAZY ODYSSEY was recorded at Roundhead Studios, produced by Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Devilskin, The Feelers, Opshop, Troy Kingi).

Although a single album we have a gatefold cover with epic artwork and all the lyrics. The vinyl is heavyweight at 180gms.
About the songs
Polly’s Lament, a hauntingly beautiful instrumental, is a tipping of the hat to the late Helen McCrory 1968-2021 (Helen played Shelby family matriarch Polly in Peaky Blinders) and is Adrian’s favourite song on the album.
"Polly's Lament is an outstanding track oozing with genuine soul, feel, emotion, and passionate musicianship. A culinary-like tasty audio palette served up, offering whatever blues infused rock flavour you need. An instrumental winning recipe that captures and holds you right until the end!"

No No No is a tribute to Lazy Fifty’s home town Gisborne, NZ and the beautiful SH35, on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The lyrics ‘Ride the horse down main street. Life is what it is. All along the 35. Life’s just how it is’ refer to the common sight of Gizzy and East Coast locals riding their horses through the city and townships up the Coast (horses in fast food ‘drive’ throughs are a fairly common sight!) and also a nod to Adrian riding his Harley around the coast.
Adrian's love of where he comes from is epitomised in the chorus ‘Could you wish for anything else No No No’, Gizzy and the East Coast, heaven on earth.
No No No made it to the 2021 New Year honours lists on Kaos FM (no 21), UK Rocks Radio (no 15, beating Billy Idol’s new single which came in at No 25) and The Generator FM (no 27).
Tourism New Zealand used the video to promote this beautiful part of NZ to visitors.

Wait for Me is about the ‘unreality’ of social media ‘Tick tock is where we go, all eyes look at me’. With social media it’s easy to believe you are being left behind or even forgotten, as it moves so fast. People can end up blaming themselves or persecuting others instead of living their own life purposefully.
It ends with hope ‘Roll on with the punches don’t forget to breathe. In this world of make believe there’s always you and me’.
Wait For Me made it to the 2021 New Years honours list on Scotland Rock Radio (no 25).

My Hand is a banging rock number inspired by popular Netflix series Peaky Blinders.
The video for My Hand pays homage to the series while at the same time being as kiwi as they come, shot on location in Lazy Fifty’s home town Gisborne, NZ.
The good guys always win, watch the video until the end to see how they dispatch the bad guy.
“...with its hard-driving guitar intro and chain-gang beat, switches in tempo, passages suggestive of 70s metal, machine gun drumming, and screaming eagles lead break, My Hand is a rockin tune.”

I Don’t Know Who I Am is a classic blues number, the video was filmed at the very cool Paisley Stage in Napier, NZ (we love that place).
When we asked Adrian what it was about and why he wrote it, he said and we quote "because I was fucking stoned" .... and now all of a sudden the lyrics make more sense 🤪 Nah but seriously, the song is essentially about losing your identity because you are constantly trying to please or do what other people want.

Perdition Dance tells the tale of the hedonism of rock n roll. Is the party worth the hangover? Many of us seem to think so.
We took a page out of the David Bowie book of music marketing for this video, it’s irreverent and tongue in cheek, check out the crowd scenes.
This song was written by Adrian and his band mates from Prime Mover in the early 90s.

Falling Into You is the heaviest song on the album, with interesting time changes and psychedelic lyrics inviting the listener to join them on a magic carpet ride with flowers breathing colour into life.

Also Sprach Zarathustra (Intro), our take on the 18th century Richard Strauss composition which was the movie’s theme song.
